Danny Welbeck’s Resilience Shines as Brighton Secures Win Amid Injury Scare
Danny Welbeck’s impressive form continued as he scored the only goal in Brighton’s 1-0 victory over Newcastle United, marking his fifth goal of the season and equaling his total from last year. However, the 33-year-old striker’s match ended prematurely due to a back injury that required him to undergo scans at a local hospital. Despite the scare, Welbeck was well enough to fly home with the squad, highlighting his resilience and determination.
Teammate Georginio Rutter has called for Welbeck to be considered for an England call-up in the absence of star striker Harry Kane. “If he plays like this, he can play for a long time,” Rutter said, praising Welbeck’s talent and leadership. “He is a great teammate and very supportive, with a personality that connects everyone on the team.”
The injury occurred following a collision that initially seemed minor. Welbeck, known for his professionalism, was seen conversing with teammates as he was assisted off the pitch. Brighton managed to hold on for the win, keeping them just outside the top four in the Premier League.
Brighton head coach Fabian Hürzeler, who is younger than Welbeck, expressed admiration for the veteran striker’s impact both on and off the field. “I don’t see that he is getting old,” Hürzeler stated. “He’s a role model—taking care of his teammates and fostering a positive environment at the club.”
The Seagulls will hope for a swift recovery for Welbeck as they look to build on their success and push for a higher league position. His contributions, both as a scorer and a leader, are invaluable to the team’s aspirations this season.
