Celtic let a two-goal lead slip at home as Aberdeen fought back for a 2-2 draw, leaving fans at Parkhead disappointed and frustrated. The result keeps the Hoops level on points with their opponents at the top of the William Hill Premiership, but the manner of the collapse will be a cause for concern for manager Brendan Rodgers.
Celtic appeared to be in control after first-half goals from Reo Hatate and Kyogo Furuhashi, both coming within three minutes of each other. Hatate’s clinical finish from Furuhashi’s assist put the hosts ahead, and moments later, Furuhashi himself pounced on a loose ball to double the advantage. At that point, it seemed like Celtic were cruising towards another victory, but Aberdeen had other ideas.
The second half saw Aberdeen come out with renewed energy and belief, and their determination paid off. Substitute Ester Sokler made an immediate impact, latching onto a perfectly timed through ball from Jamie McGrath and slotting past Joe Hart in the 50th minute. Just 10 minutes later, Graeme Shinnie’s deflected shot found the back of the net, leveling the scoreline and stunning the home crowd.
Celtic pushed hard for a winner in the closing stages, but Aberdeen’s resilient defense held firm. There was late drama when Celtic’s Auston Trusty had a goal disallowed for a push on goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov during stoppage time. Mitov’s heroic save from Adam Idah’s header moments later kept the score even and ensured the visitors would leave Glasgow with a valuable point.
