Jules Bianchi, a French Formula 1 driver, tragically sustained severe head injuries during the 2014 Japanese Grand Prix. He lost control of his car in wet conditions and collided with a recovery vehicle that was attending to a different incident on the track. Bianchi suffered a diffuse axonal injury, a type of traumatic brain injury, which left him in a coma. After spending nine months in a coma, Bianchi passed away on July 17, 2015, making him the first Formula 1 driver to die from injuries sustained during a race since Ayrton Senna in 1994.
His accident led to changes in F1 safety regulations, including the introduction of the Virtual Safety Car system to prevent such incidents.
