MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Vikings are aiming to solidify their position at the top of the NFC North in their upcoming game against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, but they might be without several key players due to injuries.
CBS Sports writer and Vikings insider Cody Benjamin provides updates on some notable players on both offense and defense.
RB Aaron Jones
Jones is questionable for Sunday’s game after a hip injury sidelined him during Week 5’s victory over the New York Jets. Described as “week-to-week” following the team’s bye, he may still play but will likely share carries. Ty Chandler is next in line, with Cam Akers, in his second stint with the team, also expected to see significant action.
TE T.J. Hockenson
Although Hockenson has had over a week of practice and is physically improving, the team is being cautious with his return after last year’s ACL injury. He is more likely to play in Week 8 or 9. In the meantime, Josh Oliver and Johnny Mundt will continue to fill in.
DT Harrison Phillips
Phillips was limited in practice early this week due to a shoulder injury, but there is little concern about his availability for the Lions game.
LB Blake Cashman
Cashman, a key part of Brian Flores’ defense, sustained a turf toe injury in London. While head coach Kevin O’Connell hasn’t ruled him out, it seems unlikely he’ll play. If Cashman sits out, Kamu Grugier-Hill, who has shown promise, will step up alongside Ivan Pace Jr.
The Vikings will face off against the Lions on Sunday at 12 p.m. CT.
