West Ham United’s sporting director, Tim Steidten, is reportedly preparing a bid for Atlético Madrid striker Alexander Sørloth in the January transfer window. This move comes amid concerns over Niclas Füllkrug, who has struggled to make an impact since joining West Ham. Füllkrug, once a standout at Borussia Dortmund, has yet to score for West Ham and has missed the last five games due to injury.
Sørloth, who joined Atlético Madrid from Villarreal in the summer for a reported £27 million, has also found it challenging to adapt to his new surroundings, with only one goal in nine La Liga games. Despite his recent struggles, Sørloth has shown promise in the past, scoring 26 goals in all competitions last season. West Ham may see him as a potential long-term replacement for Füllkrug, whose injury issues have raised concerns.
If the deal goes through, it could offer Sørloth a chance for redemption in the Premier League, having previously struggled during a brief spell with Crystal Palace. West Ham, looking to improve under Julen Lopetegui, may view Sørloth as the ideal striker to reinvigorate their attack.
This interest aligns with Steidten’s reputation for strategic recruitment, as the Hammers aim to strengthen their squad following an inconsistent start to the season.
