Rangers: Former Premier League official calls the team “really, really bad.” Motherwell incident versus Dan Casey

Rangers: Ex-ref blasts 'really, really bad' Motherwell incident

Dermot Gallagher is baffled as to why Dan Casey was not dismissed for his challenge that caused Ross McCausland to be hurt during the Rangers’ loss to Motherwell.

After the Light Blues winger departed Ibrox on crutches, the former Premier League referee responded to footage of the match on Sky Sports on March 4, calling it a “really, really bad” match.

Casey’s first-half follow through on the Northern Irishman went unpunished, and on March 2, he scored the game’s winning goal in an unexpected 2-1 victory at Ibrox.

“Why on earth” wasn’t there a red card for an event that made the Rangers “really unhappy,” inquired host Rob Wotton.

Gallagher said, “I’m not sure.” In my opinion, it’s a red card. It’s an incredibly poor tackle. The speed at which he moves, the whole thing. I’m told the boy had to leave the pitch and returned home using crutches. Not a very good tackle.

Rangers’ wounded Ross McCausland leaves Dermot Gallagher perplexed.

It no longer matters if you win the ball first if you charge in with your studs up, and Casey definitely caught McCausland if the 20-year-old went off hurt.

Even when the majority of observers disagree, officials frequently base their controversial choices on occurrences that satisfy specific criteria.

It is odd, then, that the Casey challenge went unnoticed when it appeared to be out of hand and to put an opponent’s safety at jeopardy.

Rivals of Rangers may like to point out that Connor Goldson got away with it when he lunged during the cup triumph against Ayr United, but the defender was fortunate not to receive a punishment of his own and undoubtedly profited from Roy Syla’s injury.

The manager is even more frustrated since McCausland was benched on top of Philippe Clement’s long list of injuries, which also includes the absences of Todd Cantwell, Danilo, Oscar Cortes, and Abdallah Sima.

After the game, the Belgian said he wasn’t sure about the choice, but not everyone felt the same way.
