Leeds United might recall Darko Gyabi from his loan at Plymouth Argyle due to a midfield injury crisis. Former Leeds and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson discussed the possibility on Football Insider’s *Inside Track* podcast, suggesting that Gyabi could step in for the injured Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev.
The 20-year-old, who joined Argyle on loan this summer, has become a crucial player under Wayne Rooney, starting in all but one of their nine Championship games and making 11 appearances across all competitions.
However, injuries to Leeds’ midfield have left Daniel Farke’s squad shorthanded. Robinson previously informed Football Insider that Ampadu and Gruev would be out until at least January 2025. This situation has led Leeds to explore their options, with Gyabi’s strong performance on loan positioning him as a potential first-team option back at Elland Road.
Robinson, though, expressed doubt about whether Leeds could recall Gyabi immediately due to the terms of his loan agreement. Additionally, Leeds is exploring the option of signing a free agent, with Cheikhou Kouyate among those they’ve reportedly held talks with, according to Football Insider.
With Ampadu and Gruev sidelined, players like Joe Rothwell and Ao Tanaka will have to fill the starting roles, leaving Farke with limited bench options. Robinson suggested that the club might consider recalling Gyabi to strengthen their midfield depth, though the feasibility of an immediate return remains uncertain.
“They’ve got Charlie Crew as an option to promote for now,” Robinson told Football Insider. “And Gyabi is doing well at Plymouth under Rooney. If there’s a recall clause in his loan, Leeds might consider it to boost their midfield. Whether it’s possible right away is unclear, but it’s an option for the club to consider.”
