In a recent interview, Toronto Maple Leafs captain John Tavares reflected on his time playing under Sheldon Keefe as the team embarks on a new journey with head coach Craig Berube. Tavares spoke highly of Keefe’s influence on his development and the Maple Leafs’ growth during Keefe’s tenure.

Tavares expressed deep appreciation for Keefe, highlighting the personal bond they formed over the years. He stated, “Yeah, he made a great impact on me. We had a lot of time together. And, you go through a lot—you learn a lot about each other, not just through the game and the team but personally as well.” Tavares acknowledged Keefe’s dedication to fostering a positive environment within the locker room and the significant strides the team made under his leadership.

“He helped me a ton while I was in Toronto,” Tavares added. “I’m very appreciative of the impact he made on me and the group as well. I think we’ve grown a lot while he was here, and I know he did everything he could to help us find success.”

With Keefe now coaching the New Jersey Devils, the Maple Leafs are turning their attention to working under Craig Berube, eager to build on the foundation Keefe helped establish. While the transition to a new coach brings change, Tavares and the team look to carry forward the lessons and growth they experienced under Keefe as they pursue success in the upcoming season.
