Yamamoto impressed during his professional tryout in training camp, scoring three goals in six preseason games. Last season, he played for the Seattle Kraken, registering 16 points (eight goals, eight assists) over 59 games.

“He can play every role,” Utah head coach Andre Tourigny told the Salt Lake Tribune. “We put him in every situation during camp, and he handled it well. What stood out was his ability to win battles on the ice.”

Originally drafted 22nd overall by Edmonton in the 2017 NHL Draft, Yamamoto spent six seasons with the Oilers, tallying 50 goals and 68 assists across 244 regular-season games. He also contributed three goals and nine assists in 34 playoff appearances.

Utah, previously known as the Arizona Coyotes, is set to begin their 2024-25 season on Tuesday at home against the Chicago Blackhawks.
