Honda Racing Australia is gearing up for its most ambitious 250 program yet for the 2024 Australian Supercross Championship.
Team Director Yarrive Konsky emphasized the importance of meeting high expectations and maintaining the team’s success in the 250 class. “Since 2019, we’ve dominated the 250 championships in both motocross and supercross, but keeping that streak alive is no easy task given the talent across all teams. This year, we’ve made significant investments to highlight Honda’s winning range of motocross bikes. I’m incredibly grateful to our sponsors—without their support, none of this would be possible,” said Konsky.
Leading the 250 effort is two-time AMA Supercross 250 runner-up Shane McElrath, who is eager to compete in Australia for the first time. Confident in the team and the bike, McElrath expressed enthusiasm for the challenge ahead: “This team and bike have a proven track record, and I’m excited to be part of it. While I’ve been to Australia before, this will be my first time racing in the Australian Championship. I can’t wait for rounds 1 and 2 in Brisbane.”
McElrath will ride a Polyflor Honda 2025 CRF250R in the first two rounds, joined by Canadian champion Cole Thompson, who will be riding a Boost Mobile Honda. Thompson, who has achieved two overall podium finishes in Australia, is determined to secure the elusive championship title. “They say if you can’t beat them, join them. After three weeks on the Honda, I can confidently say it’s incredible. The team is world-class, and I’m aiming for a championship win—something I’ve been chasing for two years,” said Thompson.
In addition to McElrath and Thompson, Honda Australia’s experienced 250 riders will also be competing. Brodie Connolly, coming off his Australian Motocross Championship win, will have limited preparation due to his focus on the Motocross of Nations but is eager to take on the challenge in Brisbane. Noah Ferguson will ride the second Boost Mobile Honda, while Alex Larwood will represent Froth Honda Racing in the 250 class.
In the SX3 class, Jake Cannon will race the Mongrel Boots 2025 CRF250R, Works Edition. After recovering from a serious injury in last year’s Supercross, Cannon made a strong comeback to win this year’s Motocross Championship and now aims for his second title of the season. “I won the SX3 championship last year, so there’s definitely pressure. The key is being smart and consistent. As they say, you can’t win the championship in the first round, but you can lose it. Our goal is to be on top by the end of the season,” said Cannon.
Rounds 1 and 2 of the Australian Supercross Championship will begin next weekend at Kayo Stadium in Moreton Bay, Queensland.
