Engels, who made his Bundesliga debut for Augsburg in a thrilling 4-3 defeat at Dortmund, described the intensity of the experience in front of 80,000 fans. He recalled the excitement of being part of such a match and even contributing an assist at just 19 years old. Despite Dortmund being the favorites, Engels noted how Augsburg pushed them to the limit in that memorable game.
Now at Celtic, Engels is similarly captivated by the electric atmosphere of Celtic Park, particularly on European nights. Having made his Champions League debut in Celtic’s dominant 5-1 victory over Slovan Bratislava, he compared the legendary “Yellow Wall” in Dortmund to the roaring Celtic support. Engels remarked that Celtic Park can be “even louder sometimes,” describing the fans’ energy as both intimidating and uplifting, especially when they’re on his side.
Engels will be a vital figure for Celtic as they prepare to face Dortmund again, this time in the Champions League. He’s expected to play a crucial role in the midfield alongside Callum McGregor and possibly Reo Hatate, aiming to secure a positive result for Celtic in what promises to be another intense European battle.
