Keith Wyness has issued a cautionary message to Leeds United regarding the potential sacking of their manager, Daniel Farke, amid speculation. Wyness pointed to Birmingham City’s decision to sack John Eustace as a warning, highlighting how quickly managerial changes can backfire. Eustace had led Birmingham to the play-offs but was replaced by Wayne Rooney, a move that contributed to the club’s eventual relegation to League One. Wyness stressed that dismissing Farke too soon could lead to similar consequences for Leeds.
Leeds have made a respectable start to the 2024/25 season, sitting in sixth place in the Championship after six matches, with 11 points. Although there have been some disappointing results, such as their Carabao Cup defeat to Middlesbrough and a home loss against Burnley, the team remains in the promotion mix.
Wyness believes Farke is the right manager for Leeds, noting the significant squad adjustments he’s had to make after a busy summer transfer window. He argued that a “kneejerk reaction” would be detrimental to Leeds, especially as Farke has proven himself capable at this level, with previous experience in guiding teams to promotion.
The stability Farke brings is essential, and Wyness encouraged the Leeds hierarchy and fans to show patience, given the competitive nature of the Championship and the importance of maintaining consistency.
