GOOD NEWS: How ‘special’ Celtic Park atmosphere moved Nicolas Kuhn’s family to tears

Nicolas Kuhn shared that his friends and family were brought to tears as they watched him live out his Champions League dream at Celtic Park on Wednesday night. The German winger, who has had a long journey to Europe’s top competition after playing in youth teams of elite clubs, finally made his Champions League debut in Celtic’s dominant win over Slovan Bratislava.

Kuhn’s partner and family were in attendance, and after experiencing his first major European night at Celtic Park, both they and Kuhn couldn’t imagine a better place for him to achieve his long-held dream. “Unbelievable,” Kuhn described. “It was the craziest experience I’ve ever had. It was incredible. After such a long journey, to finally make it to the Champions League at a stadium like this was surreal. It exceeded my expectations. The noise after the anthem was amazing. I had been told these nights were special, and now I can say I’ve played in one.”

He added, “A lot of my friends were there, and so was my girlfriend. They thought it was amazing— I think they were even crying. My goal has always been to play in the Champions League. When I was on loan from Bayern, playing in Germany’s second division, I set my sights on the Champions League and one day, hopefully, the national team. I was 20-21 at the time, and I didn’t care what others said. It’s what I believed I could achieve.”

Celtic’s next challenge is a less glamorous League Cup quarter-final at home against Championship side Falkirk on Sunday, but Kuhn insists the team will approach it with the same respect they gave to Slovan. “It’s a different competition now, but we have to keep pushing,” he said.
