Bayern Munich’s summer signings haven’t entirely solved their defensive issues, with their defenders not performing at the expected level. Despite this, head coach Vincent Kompany remains optimistic about the team’s overall defensive efforts. He acknowledged that while Bayern’s defenders haven’t always delivered the desired results, they have generally done their jobs well.
Kompany, as quoted by the X account @iMiaSanMia, highlighted that the primary goal in any system is to win the ball and keep clean sheets, something Bayern has often achieved. He added that although they haven’t always gotten the results they deserved, the team defends collectively, whether pressing high or in a more traditional system.
The 38-year-old Belgian coach also emphasized that football is constantly evolving. He believes that Bayern’s aggressive style is consistent with their past approach and that adapting to the changing nature of the game is key. Kompany stressed the importance of evolving their pressing strategy since opposing teams are continually finding ways to counter it. Given Bayern’s dominant possession style, they must work hard to regain the ball when it’s lost, he explained.
