BREAKING: FIA CONFIRMED Shock disqualification and Penalties After Canadian Grand Prix Investigations…Read more

The FIA has confirmed a number of penalties following an extensive review of incidents from the 2026 Canadian Grand Prix, with several Formula 1 drivers finding themselves under scrutiny after a dramatic race weekend in Montreal.

The most significant penalty was handed to Oscar Piastri after the McLaren driver was judged responsible for a collision with Alex Albon. The incident occurred during the race and resulted in Albon’s retirement. Following an investigation by the stewards, Piastri received a 10-second time penalty for causing the collision, a sanction that ultimately dropped him out of the points-paying positions.

The penalty compounded a miserable afternoon for McLaren, whose gamble on intermediate tyres backfired as track conditions improved before the start. Piastri eventually finished 11th after serving his penalty, while teammate Lando Norris retired with a gearbox issue.

Other penalties were also issued during and after the Canadian Grand Prix weekend. Valtteri Bottas was penalized for exceeding the pit-lane speed limit by just 0.1 km/h, one of two post-race sanctions confirmed by the FIA.

Meanwhile, Nico Hülkenberg received a 10-second penalty during the sprint event for gaining an advantage by leaving the track, while the FIA also reviewed several qualifying incidents involving other drivers.

Not every investigation resulted in punishment. Lewis Hamilton was investigated after qualifying for a potential impeding incident involving Pierre Gasly, but the stewards concluded that no further action was necessary.
