Red Bull Team ABT is under investigation after finishing second at the 2026 ADAC RAVENOL Nürburgring 24 Hours, with the team now at risk of a late disqualification following post-race technical checks.
The Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2, which competed against Mercedes-AMG Team Verstappen Racing during the famous endurance event, is alleged to have exceeded the permitted engine power limit. Because of the ongoing investigation, officials have kept the race classification provisional until a final ruling is made.
The No. 84 Lamborghini, driven by Mirko Bortolotti, Luca Engstler, and Patric Niederhauser, underwent routine Balance of Performance testing after the race at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. During the inspection, the car was placed on a rolling dynamometer to measure engine output and confirm compliance with GT3 regulations.
Reports from Motorsport-Total.com claim the engine generated approximately 20 horsepower more than the approved reference figure. Current regulations only allow a tolerance of two percent, which is believed to equal roughly 10 horsepower for a 500 hp GT3 engine. This means the ABT Lamborghini may have exceeded the legal threshold by a considerable margin.
The investigation has created uncertainty around the final results of the race, with stewards now reviewing the technical findings before deciding whether further penalties, including disqualification, will be issued.
The inspection process itself was reportedly delayed due to a clutch problem on the Lamborghini shortly after the chequered flag. Despite the issue, officials were eventually able to complete the necessary testing procedures.
As part of standard post-race scrutineering, the leading cars from six manufacturers were sealed and examined after the race. All other entries reportedly passed their inspections without any concerns, leaving the Red Bull-backed Lamborghini as the main focus of the investigation.
The Nürburgring 24 Hours remains one of the most demanding races in endurance motorsport, making technical compliance especially important. Race stewards are expected to study the data carefully and hear from the team before confirming the final classification.
