Italian luxury carmaker Ferrari has officially entered a new era after unveiling its first fully electric production vehicle, a dramatic shift that has stunned insiders and sparked huge debate across the automotive world.

 

For years, Ferrari resisted pressure to abandon traditional combustion engines, with company executives repeatedly insisting that the emotional sound and character of a petrol-powered Ferrari could never truly be replaced. But that stance has now changed with the launch of the all-electric Ferrari Luce, a high-performance EV designed to push the iconic brand into the future.

 

The reveal of the Luce immediately became one of the biggest talking points in the automotive industry. Reports described insiders as “astounded” by the company’s willingness to fully commit to an electric Ferrari after years of hesitation and cautious hybrid development.

 

Ferrari’s new EV represents a major departure from the brand’s traditional image. The Luce is not only Ferrari’s first fully electric car, but also its first five-seat production model, featuring a radically different design philosophy developed with input from former Apple design chief Jony Ive.

 

The vehicle reportedly produces more than 1,000 horsepower and can accelerate from 0-60 mph in around 2.5 seconds, placing it firmly among the fastest EVs ever built. Ferrari has also attempted to preserve some of its trademark drama by developing an artificial sound system intended to mimic the emotion of a traditional Ferrari engine.

 

However, the launch has divided opinion among fans and analysts alike.

 

While some praised Ferrari for embracing innovation and taking a bold step into the electric future, others criticised the Luce’s styling, claiming it lacks the aggressive elegance normally associated with the famous Italian marque. Social media comparisons to more mainstream electric vehicles quickly spread online, with some critics branding the design a “monstrosity.”

 

The market reaction was equally dramatic. Ferrari’s share price reportedly dropped sharply following the unveiling as investors questioned whether luxury EV demand can justify the enormous development costs and premium pricing attached to the Luce. The car is expected to cost more than €500,000, making it one of the most expensive electric vehicles ever produced.

 

Despite the criticism, Ferrari leadership remains confident that the project will succeed. Chairman John Elkann and CEO Benedetto Vigna reportedly view the Luce as a necessary evolution for the company as global emissions regulations continue to tighten and the automotive industry gradually moves toward electrification.

 

The launch also arrives at a crucial moment for the wider performance car market. Several manufacturers have recently slowed or reconsidered their EV ambitions due to weakening demand, but Ferrari appears determined to prove that electric technology can still deliver excitement, exclusivity, and performance worthy of the legendary prancing horse badge.

 

Whether the Luce becomes a groundbreaking success or a controversial gamble, one thing is already clear — Ferrari’s electric revolution has officially begun.
