Celtic’s participation in the revamped Champions League is set to provide a financial boost of £1.6 million to seven Premiership clubs, with Rangers being the only team not significantly benefiting. Celtic began the 2024/25 season in the new League Phase with a dominant 5-1 victory over Slovan Bratislava, raising hopes for an extended run in the competition under Brendan Rodgers. While Celtic’s qualification has enhanced their own finances for three consecutive years, it has also positively impacted the earnings of other Premiership clubs not involved in European competition during this time.
In a notable change, UEFA will advance solidarity payments to clubs earlier than usual, with disbursements expected in March and June 2025. The seven clubs set to receive £1.6 million each in solidarity payments include Dundee, Hibs, Kilmarnock, Motherwell, Ross County, St Johnstone, and St Mirren, all of whom are competing in the Premiership without participating in a UEFA competition this season.
Hearts, who begin their Conference League campaign on October 3, and relegated Livingston will receive £650,000 each. Aberdeen is poised to collect close to £1 million, having missed out on last season’s solidarity payments due to their involvement in the 2023/24 Conference League. Similarly, Dundee United will receive a comparable sum, as they were not in the Premiership last season.
