The FIA has released an official statement ahead of the upcoming Monaco Grand Prix, confirming a series of measures designed to improve safety, race management and the overall spectacle around the iconic street circuit.
Formula 1’s governing body revealed that race officials have been working closely with teams, drivers and event organisers following recent discussions surrounding overtaking difficulties, energy deployment concerns and race strategy debates that have dominated the early part of the 2026 season.
In the statement, the FIA stressed that Monaco remains one of the most historic and prestigious races on the calendar, but admitted that adjustments are continually being evaluated to ensure modern Formula 1 delivers exciting competition while maintaining safety standards around the narrow Monte Carlo streets.
The governing body also confirmed that operational procedures for the weekend have been reviewed after several controversial incidents earlier this season, including steward investigations and technical concerns linked to the new 2026 regulations.
Among the key points addressed were race control communication, revised monitoring of track limits in certain sectors, and updated guidance regarding energy management systems under the current power unit rules. FIA officials stated that they are aiming to “maintain the intended balance between driver skill, racing quality and technical performance.”
The Monaco weekend is expected to attract huge attention as teams continue adapting to the dramatic regulation changes introduced for 2026. Drivers have already voiced mixed opinions about the new era of Formula 1 machinery, with concerns over battery harvesting, top-speed management and raceability continuing to spark debate across the paddock.
Despite the scrutiny, the FIA reaffirmed its confidence in Monaco’s place on the calendar, highlighting the circuit’s unique challenge and historic significance to the championship. The race will continue under Formula 1’s long-term agreement with Monaco organisers, with the event now secured on the calendar until at least 2035.
