Rangers are navigating a challenging period both on and off the pitch, with changes in key leadership positions and pressing structural needs. John Gilligan has stepped in as interim chairman after John Bennett stepped down due to ill health. However, Gilligan faces the task of managing significant responsibilities without sufficient top-level support.
Philippe Clement, Rangers’ manager, hinted at the possibility of bolstering the club’s leadership soon, with the recruitment of a CEO being a key priority. Additionally, the club is looking for a new chairman, having previously failed to appoint Jim Gillespie, the vice-chairman of St Mirren. The vacant CEO role, following James Bisgrove’s exit, is a top priority for Gilligan to address.
The club is also without a head of academy, and the position of sporting director has been a subject of growing debate among supporters. Moreover, the club faces other major off-field decisions, including renewing their kit deal with Castore and upgrading the Sandy Jardine and Broomloan Road stands to match the Copland Road stand. As a result, there is a growing need to separate the responsibilities of the board and footballing departments to keep both sides of the club progressing efficiently.
