Two of Celtic's Champions League opponents get destroyed on matchday one

With both Young Boys and Dinamo Zagreb suffering heavy defeats in their opening matches, Celtic will be looking to capitalize on their opponents’ shaky morale. While Rodgers knows not to underestimate Bratislava, a victory would provide a much-needed boost for the team. Fans will be eager to see how the squad performs in this pivotal clash!

BSC Young Boys Bern 0 v 3 Aston Villa

Young Boys opened up their Champions League campaign with a home tie against another of Celtic’s opponents, Aston Villa.

The Swiss champions started brightly and had a couple of half-chances but John McGinn‘s side’s quality eventually shone through.

Villa took the lead in the 27th minute through Youri Tielemans before the Premier League side doubled their advantage through Jacob Ramsay after some comical defending from the Swiss side:

And whilst the defeat will have sapped Young Boys’ confidence, on the flip side of that, Unai Emery’s team will have taken a huge boost with a win over one of Europe’s best sides at the first time of asking.

Bayern Munich delivered a stunning performance last night, thrashing Dinamo Zagreb 9-2 at the Allianz Arena. Harry Kane was unstoppable, scoring four goals—including three penalties—while also breaking Wayne Rooney’s Champions League record with his 33rd goal in the competition. Munich raced to a 3-0 lead by the 38th minute, but Zagreb attempted a comeback with two quick goals right after halftime. Unfortunately for them, Kane’s relentless scoring quickly quelled any hopes of a revival, as he added three more goals in 20 minutes.

Now, all eyes are on Celtic as they prepare to kick off their Champions League campaign against Slovan Bratislava tonight at Celtic Park. With a packed crowd of 60,000 fans behind them, Brendan Rodgers will be hoping that the electric atmosphere can propel his team to victory. A strong start is vital, especially with upcoming matches against Young Boys, Dinamo Zagreb, RB Leipzig, and Club Brugge on the horizon. If Celtic can secure the win tonight, they’ll be well-positioned for a successful league phase.
