His mother, Marion Bell, and girlfriend, Rachael Mowles, have shared heartfelt messages, including a photo of John with his son in a Celtic strip, as well as a call for a minute’s applause at Celtic’s upcoming match against Slovan Bratislava.

The Celtic Fan Group has urged supporters to join in the minute’s applause during the 23rd minute of Wednesday’s match in memory of John. They posted on X: “This is John. He was only 22 and was at the Celtic game on Saturday. No one should go to a game and not return home. Please join the minute’s applause in his honor.”

The Celtic and broader football community have paid their respects, expressing their shock and sadness over John’s untimely death. Friends and family have described him as a beloved individual who was taken too soon.

John’s family reported him missing after he failed to return home and was last seen getting off a bus near Carlisle. They were distressed, noting it was uncharacteristic for him not to be in touch.

Police have confirmed the incident occurred near junction 42 of the M6 at around 8:05 pm, leading to a closure of the motorway in both directions for about 12 hours. They are seeking witnesses or dashcam footage from the area around the time of the accident.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to support John’s family financially during this difficult time. The fundraiser aims to alleviate some of the financial burdens and provide John with a fitting farewell.
