Martin Brundle Confirms His Son Will Challenge Max Verstappen at Nürburgring

Former Formula 1 driver and legendary broadcaster Martin Brundle has confirmed that his son, Alex Brundle, will compete against Max Verstappen in this weekend’s iconic Nürburgring 24 Hours after a late entry was officially approved.

The famous endurance event, widely regarded as one of the toughest races in world motorsport, begins on Thursday, May 14, with the main 24-hour race set to start on Saturday afternoon at the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit in Germany. A massive grid of 161 cars is expected to tackle the unforgiving “Green Hell,” creating one of the most competitive editions of the race in recent memory.

This year’s event has generated extraordinary attention due largely to Verstappen’s long-awaited debut in the Nürburgring 24 Hours. The four-time Formula 1 world champion will race in the Mercedes-AMG GT3 No.3 entered by Verstappen Racing, sharing driving duties with Lucas Auer, Jules Gounon, and Dani Juncadella.

The Dutch superstar has spent the last two years carefully preparing for this challenge. After securing his DMSB Nordschleife Permit Grade A, Verstappen continued building experience in endurance racing by competing in several Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie rounds. His preparations included a victory in the 2025 NLS9 race as well as valuable mileage during this year’s NLS2 and 24-hour qualifying sessions.

Verstappen’s involvement has dramatically boosted excitement around the race, with organizers confirming that weekend tickets sold out for the first time in the event’s history. Many fans and insiders have already described the phenomenon as the “Verstappen effect,” highlighting the enormous global attention his participation has brought to endurance racing.

However, Verstappen will not be the only recognizable figure on the grid. Alex Brundle’s surprise addition has created another fascinating storyline heading into the weekend. The British racer, who is also well known for his work as an F1TV analyst and commentator, brings significant endurance racing experience of his own and is expected to be highly competitive around the demanding Nordschleife circuit.

Martin Brundle expressed excitement over his son’s participation, with many fans eager to see whether Alex can challenge one of motorsport’s biggest names during the gruelling 24-hour contest.

The showdown between Alex Brundle and Max Verstappen is now shaping up to be one of the most talked-about stories of the entire Nürburgring weekend.
