Breaking: Max Verstappen’s next F1 move confirmed following Lewis Hamilton’s…read more

Max Verstappen’s next career decision could have major consequences for Lewis Hamilton, as uncertainty grows around both drivers’ futures in Formula 1.

Verstappen’s long-term position with Red Bull Racing is increasingly under scrutiny following a disappointing start to the 2026 season. The Milton Keynes-based team currently sits well down the constructors’ standings, and Verstappen himself has yet to finish higher than sixth in any race so far. This marks a significant drop in competitiveness compared to previous years, raising questions about both the team’s direction and the Dutch driver’s commitment moving forward.

A major factor behind the speculation is Verstappen’s dissatisfaction with the new 2026 regulations. The sweeping changes to chassis and power unit rules have not been well received by the reigning champion, who has openly described the cars as “not fun” to drive. His frustration has fueled reports suggesting he may even consider stepping away from Formula 1 altogether if the situation does not improve.

Despite being under contract with Red Bull until 2028, it is becoming increasingly likely that Verstappen could seek a new challenge within the next couple of seasons if results fail to improve. This has naturally sparked widespread speculation about potential destinations for one of the sport’s biggest stars.

One team frequently linked with Verstappen is Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team. However, Mercedes appear to have settled their driver lineup, with rising star Kimi Antonelli and the consistently strong George Russell forming a highly competitive pairing. With one of them tipped to challenge for the championship this season, a move to Mercedes now seems less likely than in previous years.

Instead, attention is turning toward Scuderia Ferrari as a realistic destination for Verstappen from 2027 onwards. Ferrari are in the process of rebuilding into a title-contending force and have both the financial power and potential seat availability to secure a blockbuster signing.

On paper, a Verstappen move to Ferrari makes strong sense. The Italian team is aiming to end its long wait for championship success, and adding a driver of Verstappen’s caliber could significantly boost their chances. However, such a move would inevitably have consequences for Hamilton, who currently drives for Ferrari.

At 41 years old, Hamilton remains competitive and has delivered solid performances in 2026, although he has at times struggled to match teammate Charles Leclerc. His current contract is set to expire at the end of the season, with an option to extend for another year.

If Verstappen were to become available, Ferrari could face a difficult decision. The allure of pairing Verstappen with Leclerc might prove too strong to ignore, potentially putting Hamilton’s seat at risk despite his experience and success. In such a scenario, the seven-time world champion would be forced to consider his next move—whether that means joining another team or bringing an end to his illustrious career.

Alternatively, if Verstappen decides to leave Formula 1 entirely, the situation would change dramatically, likely securing Hamilton’s place at Ferrari for the near future.

Ultimately, Verstappen’s next step—whether it’s staying with Red Bull, switching teams, or stepping away from the sport—could have a ripple effect across the entire grid. Few will be watching more closely than Hamilton, whose own future may depend heavily on what the Dutchman decides to do next.
