There is obviously still affection between Kyrie Irving and the Celtics fan base.

Despite their improved play since the trade deadline, Kyrie Irving and the Dallas Mavericks were unable to overcome the Boston Celtics on Friday night. The Mavericks were completely overwhelmed, and Irving should already be hurting from the fact that the team with the best record in the NBA right now defeated them 138-110. However, Celtics supporters never let go, adding to the Mavericks star’s injuries.

Irving and the Celtics are obviously still very much in love, even though it has been over five years since the erratic player left the legendary team in a humiliating manner. Deep into the fourth quarter, with the Mavericks far out of the running, a boisterous crowd at TD Garden erupted in jeers, yelling out “Kyrie sucks” as a way of expressing their ongoing discontent with their former star.

The Celtics fans are known for being among the most cruel, and they made Kyrie Irving understand that his offences against the team will not go unpunished. Recall that the Mavericks star had a rough conclusion to his two seasons in Beantown, with Boston underperforming in the postseason after a plethora of chemistry difficulties broke out. The star had previously stated that he would want to see his number 11 Celtics jersey hanging on the TD Garden rafters.

It appears that Irving hasn’t been too happy with the Celtics team in the subsequent seasons. The Boston Celtics star, Irving, infuriated a fan base that didn’t already like him by stomping on the team’s insignia in the centre of the TD Garden hardwood floor in what looked to be a targeted disrespectful act.

In his last two stops, Kyrie Irving has left a trail of frustration as the fan bases of the Celtics and Nets have united against the Mavericks star. His off-court behaviour over the last few years hasn’t made things any better, and he’s gone from being a beloved player by the fans to one of the league’s most divisive players.

Although the way that Celtics fans are waving at the Mavericks player may not be the greatest, it’s important to appreciate their motivation.
