Leon Balogun is hoping that his Rangers comeback would lead to new contract negotiations, allowing him to remain at Ibrox. The seasoned Rangers defender was summoned in to replace injured defensive mainstay Connor Goldson, and he surprised everyone by starting the Scottish Cup semi-final match against Hearts on Sunday. With a strong showing at the rear and a goal from Gorgie marksman Lawrence Shankland, the 35-year-old validated manager Philippe Clement’s bold decision and secured the Light Blues’ spot in next month’sfinal, winning 2-0 against Celtic. As things stand, Balogun’s final day of action for the Rangers will be against Brendan Rodgers’ Hoops; his Ibrox contract expires at the end of the current campaign. The Nigerian international, who is on in his second spell with the Gers after spending the first two years playing for Gio van Bronckhorst and Steven Gerrard, would much rather stay. The former stopper for Brighton, Wigan, and QPR said he hasn’t started negotiations on a longer contract.
