After a 3-3 draw, holders Celtic defeated Aberdeen 6-5 on penalties in the opening semi-final at Hampden, cementing the contest as one of the competition’s iconic matches. A day later, Rangers and Hearts played a less spectacular but no less significant match. Philippe Clement’s team defeated the Jambos 2-0 to set up a date with their Old Firm opponents.
Thus, to determine who will hoist the trophy, Celtic and Rangers will reassemble on the afternoon of May 25. Both sets of supporters will be happy that the game begins at 3 p.m., as last season’s Scottish Cup final between Celtic and Inverness Caledonian Thistle began at 5.30 p.m. to avoid a TV conflict with the FA Cup final. The competition’s primary broadcast partners, BBC Scotland and Premier Sports, will both show the game live.
