In order to avoid having to step up himself, Alistair Johnston was hoping Joe Hart would score his penalty on Saturday.
The Celtic goalie, who was unexpectedly included among the five players picked to face Aberdeen, had the opportunity to win the game because the Hoops had been perfect up until that moment and the Dons had missed one through Ryan Duncan. The 37-year-old, however, made a shoddy effort and cracked the post.
As the shoot-out ended in instant death, one of the first people to act was Johnston, who had been praying it wouldn’t go that far. The Canadian right-back felt a sense of relief when his effort found the net, and even more so when Hart turned from zero to hero by saving a penalty kick from Killian Phillips to win the match.
