BREAKING NEWS: Wolves boss Gary O’Neil in line for ‘coaching offer’ from Premier League rivals

Wolves boss Gary O’Neil is reportedly the subject of interest from elsewhere as he continues to impress in the Molineux hotseat. O’Neil enjoyed a strong end to last season with Bournemouth before getting the Wolves job in less than ideal circumstances.

The former Portsmouth player was thrown into the fire at Wolves after a late resignation from Julen Lopetegui ahead of the start of the new season. But O’Neil has thrived, taking a Wolves side that many fancied for relegation and getting them into a position where they will battle for a top-half finish as a minimum and potentially a European spot in the final weeks of the season.

In truth, O’Neil should be in the running for manager of the season, given what he has achieved up to this point and the expectations surrounding the team coming into the season. But with such impressive performance comes attention from elsewhere, and Wolves will be sitting uncomfortably after reports of interest from Manchester United.

According to ESPN, United are interested in offering a ‘coaching role’ to O’Neil, but it’s not likely to be the head coaching job. Erik ten Hag’s position does not seem to be secure, with new co-owner Jim Ratcliffe still yet to make a final decision on the Dutchman’s future, according to reports. But this report suggests that there is concrete interest in adding O’Neil to the coaching staff in some capacity at Old Trafford. The Wolves boss is said to be aware of the interest, but with the position he would be offered unclear, there isn’t likely to be any real progress until at least the end of the season.

Any real approach is also likely to depend on Ten Hag’s future, and if he does leave, it will depend on who is next through the door, with any appointed head coach likely to want their own coaching team behind them. In the meantime, O’Neil will continue his work at Wolves having recently penned a new three-year deal.
