Due to a powerful explosion at a petrol station that claimed the life of a Scottish Celtics supporter, two guys have been detained.

Along with nine other individuals, Kirkintilloch resident Martin McGill perished in the October 2022 explosion at the Co Donegal garage.Prior to the explosion, the 49-year-old, also known as “Scotch Martin” in the community, had relocated to Creeslough to take care of his mother Mary and late father Joseph.

It was understood that when the catastrophe occurred, he had stopped to use the ATM. His car was discovered at the petrol station following the explosion, which brought the tragedy to light.

On Friday morning, two men in their 50s were taken into custody by the Gardaí on suspicion of violating the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997.

Days after the catastrophe, Martin’s burial was held, and those in attendance were told of his “kindness and compassion for others.” A Celtic top was brought to the front of the building as an homage to his team’s love, and a lone piper accompanied his coffin into the chapel.

Father John Joe Duffy, who conducted the funeral, remarked, “Martin was a carer who was filled with love, filled with kindness and compassion.”

“Are those not the key words that have been in action in this community, but have always been in action in this community, from the very first moment, despite the terrible, horrible tragedy that has struck at the very heart of this community and broken our hearts?”

“He was genuinely quite kind. His compassion radiated from him. He would be down there burning candles in this church every Sunday. He must have lit a lot more candles than I did in my lifetime. Nobody could possibly beat that record, in my opinion.”

In observance of the victims of the Creeslough explosion, Celtic FC donated £10,000 to a support fund, and its players donned black armbands.
