Mohamed Diomande has been handed his first international call-up to the Ghana squad – having previously represented the Ivory Coast. The Rangers midfielder has impressed in Glasgow since his January switch and has been rewarded with a call-up by Ghana boss Otto Addo. Diomande is one of four players to land debut spots in the Ghana national team for the fixtures against Nigeria and Uganda. And the Ibrox ace is set to represent Ghana at international level despite previously playing for the Ivory Coast at under-23 level. Diomande was born in the Ivory Coast but moved to Ghana at a young age to pursue a career as a professional footballer. A Ghana FA post read: “Bolivia based David Akologo, Nordsjaellands Ibrahim Osman, France based Nathaniel Adjei, and Diomande Mohammed of Rangers of Scotland have been named in Ghana’s 26-man squad for this month’s international friendly against Nigeria and Uganda.

“The quartet and Asante Kotoko’s Frederick Asare have earned their debut call ups following exceptional performances with their respective clubs.”The friendly games scheduled for Marrakech, Morocco marks the beginning of the new era under Otto Addo.” Diomande’s international recognition comes just a month after he headed into Rangers training sporting an Ivory Coast shirt to taunt team-mate Leon Balogun. The midfielder wore the national team shirt after the AFCON victory over Nigeria and celebrated in a light-hearted exchange with Balogun. Diomande made the move to Ghana as a youngster after being spotted by talent scout Joe Mulberry in the Ivory Coast. And the midfielder would first discover Rangers as an 11-year-old. On a historic snap in Rangers colours, Diomande explained: “I got the shirt from a guy who scouted me from Abidjan when I was 11, he’s called Joe Mulberry from England. “He scouted me from Abidjan and he got me a shirt from Rangers so I was wearing that for some personal training in Ghana when I was in the academy. “I’ve been following Rangers a lot and I’ve seen what they have achieved.
