Trabzonspor have moved to sign Borna Barisic from Rangers as a replacement for Eren Elmalı who is expected to attract offers to move to France, according to Yunus Emre Sel.The Turkish journalist for Sabah and Fotomac reported via his YouTube channel on 12 March that the Turkish defender is being lined up to depart the Super Lig, with the value of bids expected to increase towards the end of the season. The club has therefore already decided to go after Barisic in his place, with the Croatian’s contract at Ibrox expiring in the summer and leaving him free to discuss terms with European clubs.Trabzonspor are looking to sign up to seven players before the current campaign ends, with the Rangers man an early target and talks set up with his agent already.Since Barisic’s talks with Rangers have not reached a positive conclusion despite being open months [Football Scotland, 3 November] then he looks set to go.The Croatian’s delivery is as good as anyone in the SPFL but his defensive work has often seen him come in for criticism.
Now that he has lost his place to Ridvan Yilmaz the club can probably afford to let the 31-year-old go, given Brazilian Jefte is on the cards to come in at the end of the season. It will however mean another senior player leaving the club for no fee, after the likes of Ryan Kent, Alfredo Morelos and Filipe Helander all departed for nothing in the summer, Left-back had been an issue ever since the big-money departure of Calvin Bassey two summers ago, with Yilmaz taking a long time to establish himself at Ibrox. Now that he finally has it looks like Barisic’s time in Glasgow is set to end, although the 22-year-old has also been tipped to potentially leave in a big-money deal himself after strong links to a Turkish move on his own in January.
