Right now: Gustaf Lagerbielke addresses his future at Celtic after Brendan Rodgers snub

Gustaf Lagerbielke has addressed his Celtic future after the centre-back seems to have fallen out of favour with Brendan Rodgers. A £3m summer signing from Elfsborg, Lagerbielke has struggled to establish himself in a Celtic side that has been beset with injury problems this season. With just nine appearances since his summer move to Glasgow, the 23-year-old defender has spoken out about his future as he struggles to make an impact in Paradise. Lagerbielke said [Aftonbladet], “So right now the focus is on training as well as possible and continuing to show that I’m going to play.“We can still win the double, as we are fighting with Rangers for the league title and are still in the cup as well. “So there are two titles to play for. I want to play and will do everything in my power to help the team. “At the same time, I know that I can play in the best leagues, so it’s a situation we will look at after the season.”

Celtic defender Gustaf Lagerbielke named Sweden defender of the season

The Swedish international certainly seemed to have a bright future at Celtic. I told you back in August of last year how Laberbielke was highly rated in Sweden after expert, Anel Advic, described him as ‘a centre-back who excels in aerial play and is skilled with the ball at his feet. He possesses a sharp distribution ability.’ Unfortunately, though, Lagerbielke has not been given the chance to prove his worth to the team after it became apparent that Brendan Rodgers just didn’t fancy him. In fact, questions have been aired on whether or not the 23-year-old was actually picked by the Celtic manager but as we all know already, Rodgers has said that all recruitment done in January was signed off by him. Tipped to leave Celtic in January, Lagebielke’s apparent transfer to Italy fell through after an injury was picked up by Cameron Carter-Vickers. The current Sweden Defender of the Year looks like his time at the club is up and if Rodgers does decide to move him on this summer it will have been one of the strangest transfers the club has done in the last few years.
