With Celtic focused both on maintaining their lead in the Scottish Premiership and eyeing the transfer market, reports suggest they could make a move to sign a Premier League midfielder, Wataru Endo, for around £15 million in 2025 to bolster Brendan Rodgers’ squad.
Despite losing key player Matt O’Riley to Brighton in the summer—a significant blow as the talented Dane joined a list of former Celtic stars like Kieran Tierney who moved to England—the Bhoys have kept up their strong form. Now, rising star Nicolas Kuhn has also caught the attention of Premier League club Crystal Palace, sparking concerns that he, too, might follow O’Riley’s path from Celtic Park to the English top tier.
To counter this trend, Celtic is reportedly keen on bringing in a Premier League talent themselves. According to Caught Offside, Celtic may target Liverpool’s Wataru Endo, who is said to be open to a transfer due to limited playing time. The Japan international would be a strategic signing, potentially costing Celtic £12-15 million and strengthening their midfield with his experience and skill.
Celtic is not alone in this interest; clubs like Fulham, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Ipswich Town are also pursuing Endo. Although 31, Endo has exceeded expectations at Liverpool but now finds himself playing less, partly due to the rise of younger players like Ryan Gravenberch.
If he joins, Endo could partner with fellow Japan international Reo Hatate, creating a dynamic midfield pairing under Rodgers. Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has praised Endo in the past, calling him a “machine” with an exceptional footballing mind, defensive skill, and adaptability. For Celtic, snapping him up would be a significant move, reversing the trend of top talent moving south and adding another level of depth to their team for an affordable price.
