Brendan Rodgers has made it clear that Celtic won’t use the artificial surface at Rugby Park as an excuse for any underperformance ahead of their upcoming match against Kilmarnock on Sunday.
Reflecting on last season’s decisive 5-0 victory at the same venue that secured the Scottish Premiership title, Rodgers emphasized that his team can perform at a high level regardless of external conditions. He highlighted that consistency is crucial, especially following recent dominant performances, including a 6-0 win over Aberdeen in the League Cup semi-finals and a 3-1 victory over RB Leipzig in the Champions League.
Speaking to Celtic TV, Rodgers said, “We can’t have any excuse. We talk about plastic pitches and everything else. But after how we played at the end of last season, to win 5-0 and play at that level, then I can never moan about a plastic pitch again.”
Rodgers added that focus and concentration are key, acknowledging the challenging schedule with matches across various competitions, and noted that his squad is prepared. Celtic, unbeaten in league away games, have shown they can achieve big results on tough grounds. Following the match, they’ll enter another international break, the last one until March, allowing for a more continuous and packed schedule.
