Kilmarnock midfielder Brad Lyons is undaunted by the challenge of facing a high-flying Celtic, as his team looks to build on their strong home form. Killie triumphed over Rangers in their last home match and have now secured victories over both of Scotland’s top two sides twice each at Rugby Park since the start of the previous season.
Despite Celtic’s impressive midweek win against RB Leipzig, Lyons remains confident in his side’s ability to compete.
The Northern Ireland international remarked, “We’re aware of Celtic’s strengths, they’ve got quality players across the board, but we’ve got quality too. We’re not going into this game intimidated. We respect their abilities, but we know we can give them a real challenge here.”
“We’re backing ourselves,” he continued. “It’s 11 against 11. Just like before the Rangers game, we beat both Old Firm teams here last season, so why can’t we do it again this year? We’ve got the belief we can beat Celtic, and we’re confident we can do it again on Sunday.”
Kilmarnock have lost just three times at home in the last 11 months.
Lyons added, “I’m not sure if it’s the support from our home fans or the pitch itself, but no one likes playing on it. We train on it every day, we’re used to how the ball bounces, and it can be tricky for visitors. Sometimes it’s a mental thing as well. Hopefully, we can use that home advantage to our benefit on Sunday.”
