Celtic are reportedly prepared to offer a significant wage increase to secure defender Alistair Johnston on a new long-term deal. Since joining in January 2023, Johnston has become a key figure for Brendan Rodgers, with his standout performances—including a praised display against RB Leipzig—earning him a contract extension and a substantial pay rise. Currently under contract until 2027, the new agreement would further extend his stay and help ward off interest from other clubs.
Johnston’s agent has reportedly traveled to Scotland to finalize the deal, and talks are said to be progressing well. This news adds to an already promising season for Celtic, who are enjoying a strong run in the Champions League after a 3-1 victory over RB Leipzig, moving them closer to a knockout qualification spot. Domestically, Celtic remain unbeaten and are joint top of the Scottish Premiership with Aberdeen.
However, there are still unresolved contract issues for Greg Taylor, who is set to become a free agent at the end of the season. Rodgers previously emphasized Taylor’s contract as a priority, but no agreement has been reached, making it the next likely focus for the club.
