BIG DEAL: AJ ON THE BRINK….

Alistair Johnston is close to agreeing a contract extension with Celtic.

The Canadian international right-back, who was signed by Ange Postecoglou from MLS side CF Montreal for £3.25 million in January 2022, is currently under contract until the summer of 2027. However, the club is keen to secure him on an improved deal.

Johnston made an immediate impact after joining Celtic, debuting in a 2-2 derby draw at Ibrox just a week after his arrival. He stepped into the role previously held by Josip Juranovic, who left for Union Berlin in the Bundesliga later that month.

The 26-year-old has become a key figure in the squad, and his agent is reportedly in Scotland for talks, with hopes that the extension will be finalized soon. Johnston, who has captained the team in the absence of Callum McGregor and Cameron Carter-Vickers this season, has earned the admiration of fans and teammates alike.

Notably, Johnston led Celtic in a 3-0 win over Motherwell at Fir Park last month, scoring his fourth goal of the season. He also played a pivotal role in the team’s important 3-1 Champions League victory over RB Leipzig at Parkhead on Tuesday, assisting in the third goal, which was finished by Reo Hatate.
