Jacob Brown sent a timely reminder to Scotland head coach Steve Clarke that he is ready for a return to the national team by scoring the winner for Luton Town in their 1-0 victory over Cardiff.
The 26-year-old forward has not played for Scotland since November 2023, following a serious knee injury at the start of 2024. Brown, who has earned eight caps for his country, has recently returned from rehabilitation and marked his comeback with his second goal of the season. His header from an Alfie Doughty corner in the 57th minute secured a crucial win for Luton, who are struggling in the Championship.
Brown’s performance could help remind Clarke of his potential, especially with uncertainty surrounding the fitness of Che Adams. Adams, named in Clarke’s squad for Scotland’s Nations League matches against Croatia and Poland, limped off during Torino’s match at the weekend. Clarke has indicated that Adams’ fitness will be assessed, and if he is unavailable, Brown may be considered as a replacement. While Brown was overlooked for Aberdeen’s Kevin Nisbet last month, his goal for Luton could well have caught Clarke’s attention as he looks to finalize his squad.
Meanwhile, Scotland playmaker Ryan Gauld is preparing to lead Vancouver Whitecaps in their quest to reach the MLS Western Conference semi-finals. Gauld, who has been named in Clarke’s squad for the upcoming international fixtures, will captain the Whitecaps in their decisive match away at LAFC in the early hours of Saturday morning. The Whitecaps leveled the series at 1-1 with a 3-0 win over LAFC last weekend. Fellow Scot Stuart Armstrong is also expected to be involved in the match.
