“I’m telling you now” – talkSPORT pundit thinks 51 y/o “could be the one” to replace Lopetegui

TalkSPORT pundit and former Premier League striker Darren Bent believes Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers could be a strong candidate to replace Julen Lopetegui at West Ham, as Lopetegui’s job is reportedly under increasing scrutiny.

Lopetegui took over at West Ham from David Moyes this summer, with hopes of implementing a new footballing style. However, the team has struggled this season, managing just three wins from their first ten league matches, which has led to mounting pressure on Lopetegui, although owner David Sullivan is hesitant to make a quick managerial change.

Bent suggested Rodgers as a potential replacement for Lopetegui due to his experience in the Premier League with Liverpool and Leicester City, where he won the FA Cup in 2021. Bent pointed out that Rodgers might be open to leaving Celtic mid-season, as he previously did in 2019 when he left for Leicester.

Currently, Rodgers has Celtic leading the Scottish league and performing well in the Champions League, with a recent 3-1 victory over RB Leipzig. West Ham’s upcoming match against Everton could be crucial, with a defeat possibly intensifying the calls for a managerial change during the international break, a rare window for such a switch.

This scenario has sparked discussions about potential replacements, with Rodgers seen as an “incredible tactician” who might bring the “next level” to West Ham if Lopetegui’s tenure ends.
