Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi has earned a recall to the Japan national team, marking his first international call-up in a year.
Japan head coach Hajime Moriyasu unveiled his squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Indonesia and China, with Furuhashi joining his Celtic teammates Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda in the squad.
Furuhashi’s inclusion follows a strong start to the season, during which he has contributed nine goals in 15 appearances across all competitions. The forward, who has 21 caps for Japan, will aim to add to that tally during the upcoming international break.
While Maeda is a regular fixture in the Japan squad, often coming on as a substitute or starting, Hatate’s situation is different. Despite being called up in the last two international windows, the 26-year-old midfielder has not yet seen playing time. However, his recent standout performances against Aberdeen and RB Leipzig for Celtic could catch the eye of Moriyasu, who may consider giving him a chance.
Hatate’s strong form has come at an opportune moment, and both he and Furuhashi will be eager to impress the Japan coach and secure a spot in the starting lineup.
Before heading off for international duty, Celtic faces a crucial trip to Rugby Park this Sunday, where they will look to extend their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership with another victory.
