For the second consecutive home game, Celtic fans have been able to chant, “We’re doing the huddle in the Champions League!”
In September, the club celebrated its first significant Champions League win in a decade, with a dominant 5-1 victory over Slovan Bratislava. That success marked a fresh chapter, but few fans expected a two-goal triumph over Germany’s second-best team.
This cautious optimism seemed justified during the first half, as Leipzig took the lead and nearly scored again. However, Nicolas Kuhn, the best German player on the field, turned the game around with two contrasting goals, putting Celtic ahead at halftime.
With Celtic in a narrow lead, fans remained enthusiastic, knowing how tough the Champions League can be against foreign rivals. Reo Hatate added to the lead in the 72nd minute, capitalizing on a slip by Leipzig’s goalkeeper Peter Gulasci, giving Celtic a comfortable two-goal margin. This prompted fans to break out into the Huddle, momentarily turning away from the pitch in celebration.
With seven points from four matches, Celtic is now close to advancing to the Round of 16 Playoff stage—a historic milestone that would surely bring unforgettable moments for the fans.
