Callaghan’s career at Celtic spanned eight years, beginning in 1968 after signing from Dunfermline. His impact was immense, contributing to Celtic’s celebrated nine-in-a-row league title streak in 1974. During his time with the Hoops, he made 264 appearances under legendary manager Jock Stein, winning six league titles, five Scottish Cups, and three League Cups. After leaving Celtic in 1976, he played for Clydebank before ending his career with Galway Rovers in Ireland.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers paid tribute to Callaghan, calling him “a real legend of the club,” reflecting on the legacy Callaghan leaves behind. Fans lining The Celtic Way tonight will undoubtedly be paying respects to a cherished figure in the club’s storied history.
