Celtic B made significant progress today by earning three points with a 3-2 victory over RB Leipzig in their UEFA Youth League match at Lesser Hampden.
After a strong 4-0 win over Slovan Bratislava on matchday one, Celtic’s Young Hoops needed a win following back-to-back losses to Borussia Dortmund and Atalanta. A lively start saw Daniel Cummings open the scoring 14 minutes in, chipping the ball over the goalkeeper and finishing cleanly. Kyle Ure nearly doubled the lead before halftime, and soon after the break, Francis Turley added Celtic’s second goal with a sharp finish.
Goalkeeper Aiden Rice was instrumental in keeping the lead, making several key saves at 2-0. Cummings then netted his second of the game, bringing his season total to 18 goals in 17 matches with a precise first-time finish past Fernando Dickes. Though Micah Walther and Jamie Schuldes scored late goals for Leipzig, Celtic held on for a well-earned victory, setting a positive tone ahead of the senior team’s match later today.
Now with six points and currently sitting 14th in the UEFA Youth League, Celtic B will face Club Brugge on November 27th and Dinamo Zagreb on December 10th. This result puts Celtic above clubs like Arsenal, PSG, and AC Milan, a remarkable achievement for Stephen McManus and his team.
Cummings’ standout performance further fuels talk of a future senior debut, as he continues to impress with his scoring consistency. Celtic B remains in the running for a knockout play-off spot, offering invaluable experience for young players aiming to make it at Parkhead.
For now, it’s over to the senior team to keep the momentum going and make it a memorable day for Celtic fans!
