SFA announce referee and VAR for Celtic’s Killie clash…

Three weeks after officiating Celtic’s previous match against Kilmarnock, Nick Walsh will once again be in charge when the Hoops return to Rugby Park this Sunday. While the limited number of top-tier referees can lead to repeat assignments, having the same official oversee back-to-back encounters within such a short span has raised eyebrows among some fans.

Assisting Walsh will be Don Robertson on VAR, who also served as the VAR official during Celtic’s League Cup elimination at Rugby Park last August, when Alan Muir was the on-field referee.

Brendan Rodgers will be fully aware of the potential challenges in Sunday’s match. Despite Kilmarnock’s struggles this season, with only three wins so far, the Hoops know not to underestimate their opponents. Kilmarnock recently defeated Phil Clement’s side but have since faced setbacks, losing to Ross County and Dundee while securing a lone away victory against Hearts.

Celtic has had mixed results at Rugby Park in recent visits. Following two defeats there before Christmas, they redeemed themselves with a dominant 5-0 win on their last trip, clinching the SPFL Premiership title. This time, with an international break approaching, taking three points on Sunday is crucial for Celtic as they prepare for their next league match against Hearts at Tynecastle.

Rodgers will hope his team can capitalize on this fixture, aiming to keep their momentum strong before the break.
