Celtic’s praise for their League Cup semi-final win over Aberdeen has been well-earned this week.
The dominant way Celtic dismantled Aberdeen made it clear to Jimmy Thelin’s squad that they have some distance to cover if they see themselves as serious title challengers to the Bhoys.
The win was comprehensive and, for once, didn’t involve any controversial VAR or refereeing decisions.
Although, there might have been if Kris Boyd had his way.
Brendan Rodgers ‘very lucky’ to avoid a red card vs Aberdeen
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers received a booking after kicking the ball in frustration following a sideline outburst that ended with him slipping and amusing the crowd at Hampden Park.
The incident ended with some light-hearted exchange between Rodgers and the referee, but Boyd believes the Celtic manager was ‘very lucky’ not to receive a red card.
Boyd told Go Ballistic, “It’ll be interesting to see where Brendan Rodgers would rate that performance.
“Between his first and second spells, I’d rank it highly because they were outstanding.
“But should he have been sent off?
“I think he’s very lucky. We saw Derek McInnes get sent off for something similar at Dens Park a year or two ago.“
Celtic’s strong season is testing Kris Boyd’s patience
Celtic has given Kris Boyd plenty to talk about this season as the Scottish champions widen the gap between themselves and Rangers, both on and off the field.
After Celtic’s 3-0 win over Rangers in the Scottish Premiership, Boyd called his former club’s performance ‘embarrassing.’
The former Rangers striker also admitted Celtic would run away with the league this season, predicting the Hoops would lead the Ibrox side by ‘a good few points.’
Celtic then further irritated Boyd recently when Rangers’ loss to Kilmarnock meant that Celtic’s draw with Aberdeen still widened their lead at the top.
Boyd is in for a challenging season with Celtic’s success, and fans are likely to see more frustration from the former Rangers player in the coming weeks.
