‘This is not what Arne Slot wants’: Jamie Carragher says one Liverpool player was ‘like a madman’ vs Brighton

Liverpool manager Arne Slot is preparing his team for a quick turnaround from their weekend victory over Brighton to their upcoming Champions League clash with Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday. In Saturday’s intense Premier League match, Liverpool rallied from behind to claim victory against Brighton while league rivals Arsenal and Manchester City suffered defeats.

For much of the game, it seemed that Slot’s Liverpool were heading towards a second defeat this season at Anfield, as Brighton dominated the first half and held a one-goal lead. However, driven by the energetic Anfield crowd, Liverpool fought back with goals from Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah.

Despite the win, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes Slot may not have been entirely happy with the manner of the victory. Known for his composed and controlled approach, Slot’s coaching style emphasizes stability and discipline on the field. His philosophy has brought a sense of maturity to Liverpool’s play in his first 15 games.

However, Anfield’s unique atmosphere often creates an unpredictable energy, especially when Liverpool are chasing a win. Speaking to Sky Sports, Carragher noted that the chaotic, end-to-end play that helped Liverpool secure the comeback is likely something Slot would prefer to avoid, likening it to the intense, high-energy style seen under former manager Jurgen Klopp.

Slot may not favor this “Anfield factor” of chaotic momentum, but it has historically helped Liverpool managers push their teams across the line in challenging moments. Saturday’s game was Slot’s first experience of this, and it likely won’t be the last. Although it may not align with his usual approach, the Anfield energy could prove beneficial in key moments throughout the season.
