Celtic v RB Leipzig: French referee confirmed for Champions League clash

UEFA has appointed French referee Benoît Bastien to oversee Celtic’s Champions League match against RB Leipzig at Celtic Park. This game is crucial for Celtic’s chances of progressing in the tournament, as both teams aim for a valuable three points. Bastien will be assisted by fellow French officials Hicham Zakrani and Aurélien Berthoumieu, with Thomas Leonard as the Fourth Official. The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) role will be managed by Benoît Millot, alongside Italian assistant Maurizio Mariani.

Bastien previously refereed Celtic’s 2-1 victory over Feyenoord last season, where Gustaf Lagerbielke scored a late goal off Matt O’Riley’s cross. This win gave Celtic a taste of Champions League success under Brendan Rodgers.

Celtic approaches the Leipzig match on a high, following a 6-0 win over Aberdeen, securing a spot in the Premier Sports Cup Final against Rangers. Meanwhile, Leipzig seeks its first points in the new Champions League format after a recent loss to Borussia Dortmund. Both teams are eager for a win to strengthen their campaigns.
