Decision Made: Celtic Should Have Been Awarded Penalty at Fir Park, Says SFA Review

The Scottish Football Association’s Key Match Incident Review Panel has concluded that Celtic should have received a penalty during their recent match against Motherwell at Fir Park. In the first half, Daizen Maeda was challenged in the box and fell, with his hand touching the ball as it crossed the goal line. The panel confirmed that the handball decision, which led to the goal being disallowed, was correct. However, four out of five panel members agreed that Maeda was fouled, which warranted a penalty kick. Despite Celtic’s belief in a penalty, no further action was initially taken. Additionally, the panel unanimously upheld the VAR decision to upgrade Motherwell’s Liam Gordon’s yellow card to a red following a review.
