Celtic Semi-Final: Thelin Outlines One Key Component for Aberdeen’s Trophy Success

Jimmy Thelin believes that Aberdeen’s growing team spirit will be crucial for defeating Celtic in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final and ultimately winning a major trophy. Since Thelin’s appointment at the beginning of summer, the Dons have been in exceptional form, remaining unbeaten across all competitions.

Aberdeen has already amassed 28 points in the Premiership this season, with their latest victory coming against Rangers on Wednesday. This performance has kept them firmly in the title race, with Celtic facing a strong challenge from the Dons.

The two teams will clash again on Saturday at Hampden Park, just weeks after their intense 2-2 draw at Parkhead, where Aberdeen displayed remarkable determination to equalize after falling behind 2-0.

Thelin emphasized the importance of replicating that spirit if they hope to succeed in the cup. He stated, “First and foremost, we need a strong performance on Saturday. It’s a semi-final; losing means elimination. Winning takes you to the final, but our focus must be on performing well and giving our all.”

He added that belief within the squad is essential: “Everyone must have confidence; otherwise, playing is pointless. We have strong belief going into what we know will be a challenging match. We must give 100% and be confident in our abilities.”

Thelin expressed his pride in the players’ growth and team spirit, which he sees as foundational for achieving success. He acknowledged that while good performances can sometimes falter due to small mistakes, the focus should be on fostering a collective spirit that enhances their chances of victory.

Reflecting on past disappointments, Thelin mentioned his two previous cup semi-final losses in Sweden, one with IFK Gothenburg and another with Hammarby, but he isn’t dwelling on those experiences as he prepares for the Celtic challenge. He stated, “I’ve had tough losses, but I believe it’s important to focus on the present. Each opportunity is unique, and I’m eager to seize this one without being weighed down by the past.”
